You must have version 3.9 installed to get the 3.9.8.2 update.
If you have version 3.5 or 3.0 you will need to purchase version 3.9
Mac Users: To get this free update, open your birding program and click eViewer in the top Menu bar. Then click Check for Updates. When you see a message saying that updates are available, click Yes. Then when you see a message saying that updates have been downloaded from Thayer Birding Software, click Install. You will need to do this twice. (The second download takes much longer than the first. Please be aware that it will seem as if nothing is happening for 20 minutes - there is no indication that it is downloading. Please be very patient.) Click eViewer and then click About eViewer to make sure you have version 3.9.8.1 installed. The database version changes to v3.9.8.
User Tip: I think I may have not been waiting long enough for the last update to load, so I employed a Mac trick. I left the loading in the background and went on to read my email and look at other websites. A while later, I noticed the eBird bouncing in my Dock, so I clicked on it and the final update had loaded. Then I just executed it and checked the version. Perfect! Windows Users: To get this free update, open your birding program and click Help - Check For Updates.
The file will download. You will then click Install.
You will need to do this twice.
The first time updates the update process files.
The second time updates the application files.
When you have successfully downloaded v3.9.8.2, click Help - About eFieldGuide Viewer.
You should see this image telling you that you are using Version 3.9.8.2 and database v3.9.8
Gold edition users will see that they are using version 5.0.2.1 and database 5.0.2
This free update requires a v3.9 CD.
