Guide to Birds of North America version 3.5.4
This free update is for all 71 titles -- GBNA, State & Province CDs, etc.
It updates only version 3.5.0 through 3.5.3 of our software
[A newer version, v3.9, is available]
Free Version 3.5.4 Update
(Update.EXE is 2.7 MB in size and was released on September 23, 2006)
This is a zipped file. Click the link above to begin the download. Then unzip or extract the file to a location such as your desktop. Or if you see a file named Update.exe, simply double-click on it to begin.
On the first screen you see, click RUN. Wait for the download to finish.
On the next screen, click RUN. (This screen will say the Publisher could not be verified.)
At the installation wizard, click "Next" and follow the instructions on the screen.
Note: After you run this update you will notice that the Product version says 3.5.4
The Program version updates to 3.5.142 and the Database version remains at 3.5.2.
You have a version earlier than v3.5 if you see a message that says: "GBNA Update - The pointer to your installation of the program could not be found. The update will be aborted." The current version is 3.9.

Changes in version 3.5.4 Update

Error #94 that occured when you selected "mnenonics" for a Flash Card Quiz is fixed.

Error #360 that occured when importing data from an older version is fixed.

The "Check for Updates" menu option now works properly.

The issue with converting Yellow Warbler and Great Egret sightings from an older version (pre 3.5) has been resolved.

Conflicts with older software components from other software (e.g. Paper Tiger) were resolved by taking more agressive installaton steps.

Issues with the Filter menu and possible conflicts with changes in the Look and Feel window were resolved.

Bugs with the Filter functionality were fixed.

The run-time error that occured when clicking the zoom button from the toolbar is fixed.
Changes in version 3.5.3 Update
- Exporting songs to an iPod requires users to select a file or folder to copy the MP3 sound files to. The Help instructions tell you to create a new folder called Bird Songs. However, if you ignore these instructions and select an existing file or folder instead, anything else in that file will be erased. This potentially serious bug has been fixed in version 3.5.3.
- Life list sightings would not import properly where the location was something other than a state or province [i.e. the location was "United States"]. This has been fixed.
Changes in version 3.5.2 Update
- Transferring Sightings and/or Custom Lists from earlier versions now works as expected.
- Clicking Filter in the menu bar now displays your Custom Lists.
- The Menu Bar has been changed whenever the ID Wizard or Quizzes are selected.
- Yukon Territories CDs now include more birds and the list of birds is up-to-date.
- Short-billed Dowitcher has been changed to "common" in Florida.

Uninstalling older versions caused problems with the version 3.5 database. The Uninstall option for older versions has been disabled. DO NOT UNINSTALL VERSION 3.1

Two Video quizzes stopped working when the quiz tried to display the Royal Tern video. It often appeared that American Woodcock was causing the problem. This has been fixed.

The American White Pelican video now appears in video quizzes.
