If you have a 64-bit operating system, you need to download and install this free update in order to run version 3.9.5 (or earlier) or version 5.0.0 of the birding program on your 64-bit computer.
1. Install the birding program on your 64-bit computer. When you click on the desktop icon you will usually see an error message that says "Type Initializer Threw an Exception". (You can verify that you do indeed have a 64-bit computer by following the instructions at the very bottom of this page. Do NOT download this free update if you have a 32-bit computer.)
2. Click one of the links above to download the v3.9 or v5.0 update for 64-bit computers. When asked if you want to Open or Save the file, click Save. Then save it on your Desktop so you can easily find it. The file is named setup64_v3.9.zip or setup64_v5.0.zip
3. Install this free update by going to your Desktop and double-clicking on the file you just downloaded. This will start the Installation Wizard. (You may have to right-click on the file to unzip it first.)
4. Then just follow the instructions on the screen.
The next time you open the program the version number should say 3.9.7 or 5.0.1, depending on which product you have.
Users with 64-bit computers who have not installed this free update will typically see an error message that says "Type Initializer Threw an Exception". This error message goes away once this free update is installed on your computer.
Note: These downloads are zipped files. You may need to unzip them in order to run setup64_v3.9.exe or setup64_v5.0.exe.
This free download is already included on the setup disc for v3.9.8 and v5.0.2.
If you try this and are still unable to run the program on a 64-bit computer, please submit a Help Ticket and tell us your mailing address and the name of the program.
[Here is what one user said: Thanks! I uninstalled, and then reinstalled the software (ver. 3.9.0) from the original CD. Then I immediately loaded the 64-bit update, and the program opened without errors. I then checked for updates and installed ver. 3.9.8 from your website and everything seems to be working fine. Appreciate your help. Now I can go back to enjoying your excellent program on my new machine.]
